Lindsay D. is a 10-year San Francisco resident, people person, and has attended every Tillage Members’ Meal (and brings great wines to share).
How long have you been in the city? Tell us a little about your journey.
I moved here 10 years ago from Philadelphia because my partner got a job in SF. We drove here in 5 days with our really old dog. I said I would give it 2 years and planned to move back if I didn’t like it, and now look at us!
My world got a lot bigger when I moved here. I met new people with interesting jobs I was so unfamiliar with, new communities, and when I had my (now almost 4 year old) daughter, my world grew even bigger.
I still miss doing everyday life with friends and family in New Jersey, but we make it back at least once a year, and I love that their kids still know who we are.
How many steps are you away from Tillage?
I’m a 20 minute walk away. Actually, let me check my watch—I’m about 3,000 steps away.
What does a typical day or week look like for you, and how has Tillage become a part of that routine?
I have no typical day or week. Every day starts with the mindset of at what point can I get to Tillage. The gym is on the way anyways, and I don’t go to one without the other so it's a good motivator! I’m usually here two days a week but always strive for a higher attendance.
What drew you to Tillage, and what have you enjoyed about being part of the community so far?
My husband and I passed by this beautiful space, and we had no idea what it was. I looked it up, met Mel for a tour, and joined right away. I actually signed up for the annual membership. I’ve been working from home for 5 years, which wasn’t ideal since I’m a people person. It’s nice to have a change of environment so I’m not always working from the same table where I eat my meals.
Where's your favorite spot at Tillage?
I love the blue couch in the front, specifically the corner looking out the front window. If it’s taken I get the “don’t know what to do with my hands” feeling.
What’s your favorite Tillage Gathering?
I love the Members’ Meal/pizza night. I’m a wine broker, so I enjoy introducing people to new wines. I love that my daughter likes the pizzas—she can take down two by herself (without the crust). My husband also likes to come, so the family’s all here.
What does being a community member mean to you?
I like being helpful. I’m a helper by nature, and I like making connections by saying, “hey I know someone who does that,” or “I know this place that might be what you’re looking for.” I enjoy engaging with people and being approachable.
What’s one local spot you couldn’t live without, and what’s one memory you’ve made there?
Kevin’s Noodle House. We love pho, especially coming from Philly where they have a great Vietnamese community. Kevin’s was the first place my daughter went to where she sits and eats and doesn’t mess around. She’ll eat a full bowl.
I’m pretty sure the owners also had a baby a couple months before we had our daughter—the first time we took her there as a baby they also brought out their baby to show us. It was really special.
We also love Golden Gate Park. If we ever moved, that’s what we would miss the most.
